ORCHARD PARK, NY- In a wild thrilling game Dunkirk outlasted Batavia 50-48 in overtime in the Far West Regionals. The Marauders move into the New York State semifinals next weekend at Cicero North Syracuse.
The teams combined for 42 first quarter points. Things calmed down a little in the second quarter with each team scoring once and Batavia was the only team to score in the third quarter. In the fourth quarter Dunkirk outscored the Blue Devils 14-8.
In overtime Alton Ingram ran for a 16 yard touchdown and the two point conversion to give Dunkirk a 50-42 lead. Batavia quarterback Jerry Reinhart answered the touchdown with a 3 yard run for a score but the Blue Devils could not convert the two point try and Dunkirk had its two point victory.
For Batavia Ray Leach rushed for 224 yards on 20 carries. Reinhart ran for 131 yards on 14 carries. For Dunkirk Ingram carried 33 times for 240 yards.
Batavia ran 52 plays for 470 yards and Dunkirk ran 66 offensive plays for 501 yards. Its a Far West Regional game that will be talked about forever.
