Dick Gallagher's High School Football Team Analysis

Msgr. Martin Association

Canisius: Crusaders excel on all phases of the game. House and Burniston are the ministers of defense. They are the favorite for the title.

St. Joe’s: Landri has the Marauders being competitive. Kelly is the real deal and will only get better. Kelsch is a monster.

St. Francis: Red Raiders get on the win board against the Little Irish and Hickson should break Licata’s record this week.

Timon/St. Jude: Tigers scored 18 points and gave up 155 in 3 games on the road. Myers, Harrison, Johnson, Pilarsk, and Caufield will light it up against WNY teams.

St. Mary’s: Lancers are struggling. They have scored the fewest points in WNY and allowed 201 points.

Cardinal O’Hara: This team has trouble playing big schools. They have to give Hawk Kudos for playing and not avoiding them.

Section VI

Lancaster: TO be a champion, one has to beat the champion. That is exactly what the Legends did against the Quakers with Mansell, Castillo, and company. A game for the ages.

Orchard Park: Devastating loss last week for the Quakers. Do they recover for the playoffs? Janca was solid except for the interceptions. Running game did not produce.

Hutch-Tech: The offense, Duane Robertson, and Waulik. Jeader will have the Engineers in the playoffs. Up next they play Lancaster.

Frontier: Frontier surprised Springville with a victory. Offense and defense are both struggling.

Class AA North

Clarence: Red Devils’ defense led by Kloss, Putney, Mullen, and Shaver. They are a favorite to win the title.

Williamsville North: Spartan offense has struggled in the past few games and they need to get back on track or the Spartans will have an early exit from the playoffs. Kelly is a tackling machine.

Niagara Falls: Surprise team. Outstanding athleticism and talent. Tel and Del Hunt are a dynamic duo for the Wolverwines. They will be in the playoffs.

Kenmore West: Competitive league this year. Lynch is a stud. They need to avoid penalties and turnovers. Injuries and suspensions have hurt the Blue Devils. Nice win over Lockport.

Lockport: Lions struggling on both sides of the ball. Defense desperately needs to improve.

Niagara Wheatfield: Falcons disappointing this season.

Class A South

South Park: Sparks statement win over Bennett could give Tim Delaney’s squad the number one seed. Defense is physical and offense with Schaefer and Harris is explosive. Loss to the Trojans will cost them in playoff seeding.

Bennett: Tigers should be a force in the playoffs. In 3 years, they could be the only WNY team to play in the sectional title game in 3 different classes.

West Seneca East: Back in the hunt for a top playoff with a come from behind win over South Park’s turf.

McKinley: Hillery has Macks in contention. Miles Haynes is an excellent 2 way player and is only a junior.

Iroquois: Cheifs lost a heartbreaker to Cheektowaga and will probably play in a Funke Bowl game.

Hamburg: Hamburg scored the first 20 points against McKinley and the Bulldogs gave up the final 44 points to the Macks.

West Seneca West: Indians won’t be in the playoffs, 60 point loss to Riverside has to be embarrassing.

Lake Shore: Lake Shore only scored 64 points on offense and allowed 196 points. Jenkins is the real deal.

Riverside: Riverside allowed 197 points in 4 games. Had a huge win over the Indians.

Class A North

Starpoint: Sparks fans are energetic after their comeback win over the Jacks.

North Tonawanda: Jacks had a meltdown against Grand Island after leading 21-0. Loss to Spartans will hurt them in the playoff seeding.

Grand Island: Vikings are one of the surprise teams. They have one of the top coaching staffs in the area. Johnson, Thorpe, Sionko, and Buzby can be an explosive machine.

Williamsville South: Billies with Foster, Worthy, Nelson, and Jones will be in the playoffs again. Big games left with Starpoint and Grand Island.

Williamsville East: Lack of depth is a challenge for the Flames. T.J. Allen is a good RB and might play in the Funke Bowl.

Sweet Home: Panthers are struggling in John Faller’s final year of coaching.

Amherst: Offense coming around with Womack, Barefield, and Fowler. Fulford is a beast at LB.

Kenmore East: Defense has allowed 240 points and offense only scored 50. They will continue to struggle but the players to give effort.

Class B East

Medina: Mustangs’ offense is exploding with Cotter, Cooper, and Rhim. They will be a force in the playoffs.

Lackawanna: Steelers back on track with Smith brothers and Horton.

Depew: Wildcats offense and defense struggling but still have a shot at the playoffs.

Albion: Purple Eagles have only one win and will miss the playoffs.

Barker/RH: Defense has given up 172 points and will be out of the playoffs.

Class B West

Cheektowaga: Warriors with another comeback win. Turpin, Gray, Bartnik, and Parker are potent on offense.

Maryvale: Somewhat of a surprise. Matchup with the Warriors will be smash mouth football at its best.

Burgard: Bulldogs have lost 3 consecutive games. Could wind up playing Medina or Cheektowaga in the quarterfinals if they make the playoffs.

Lew-Port: Lancers lost a tough one to the Warriors. Jeffords is the real deal.

Tonawanda: Warriors are struggling in Joe Kelly’s first year. Defense has given up 36 points a game. They will be out of the playoffs.

Class B South

Olean: Surprise team. Phil Vecchio and coaching staff pushing the right buttons. Boldt is a player.

Springville: Jekyl and Hyde team. Baker is awesome and should be a Connolly Cup finalist. Play of the QB will determine their playoff fate.

East Aurora/Holland: Boss and company put points on the board. Defense needs to get better. Still should make the playoffs.

Dunkirk: Marauders are getting better each game. They are averaging 28 points.

Pioneer: Panthers have some tough losses. Rigelman is a player. Loss of Gauthier to injury was huge.

Fredonia/WB: Merger helped with numbers but not quality of play. Defense is giving up 30 points per game.

Class C North

Cleveland Hill: Golden Eagles should be in title game at New Era Field. Eldridge is a stud on both sides of the ball. They are the favorite for the title.

JFK: Surprise team. James Bailey is the Bears Franchise player. Loss to Wilson was a surprise.

Wilson: Justin Dawl carries the Lakemen offense on his back while Kitcho anchors the defense.

Akron: Sarow, Sarow, and more Sarow. They have given up 29 points a game.

Eden/NC: This season is a struggle for head coach and players. They will not be in the playoffs.

Falconer/CV: Defense has allowed 116 points and should make the playoffs.

Gowanda: Alexander has a shot at 2000 yards and Ortiz is a tackling machine. They will be in the playoffs.

Chautauqua Lake: Thunderbirds rely on Kevin Pope. They should be in the playoffs.

Allegany/Limestone: Disappointing team. They will be out of the playoffs.

Salamanca: Salamanca has the longest losing streak in Western New York. Once a proud and competitive football program is in disarray.

Class D

Maple Grove: Red Dragons on a roll averaging 45 with Benson and Padilla and only allowing 9 with Micek “The Minister of Defense.”

Franklinville/Ellicottville: This team got blasted at home by the Red Dragons. Could be in the title game at New Era Field. Blecha is huge on both sides of the ball.

Silver Creek/Forestville: Huge matchup at Maple Grove. Seiders, Williams, and Raddock lead the Black Knights.

Randolph: Cardinals got bombed by CSP. They will not last long in the playoffs.

Frewsburg: Trent Gray to Cordell O’Brien is one of the area’s best passing combination. Offense averages 34 points as does defense.

CSP: Wolfpack's big win over Randolph was huge for the program. Kolby Parks is the real deal.

Portville: Panthers defense has allowed 36 points a game. They will have a tough matchup in the playoffs.

Cattaraugus/LV: Timberwolves have only scored 20 points and allowed 225 points. Could go winless in 2016.

Independents

Nichols: Vikings are winless and had to forfeit a game. Bright spot on both sides of the ball is Brinson.
