Assistant High School Coach Profile: Paul Gregoire, West Seneca East

Dick Gallagher presents a high school football assistant coach profile on Paul Gregoire who coaches for West Seneca East High School.

I began coaching immediately after my senior year in college. I enjoyed the game ever since I played little loop and I wanted to give back all the lessons that I learned. I wanted to coach so I could help players be their best, perform to their fullest potential and help develop a love for the game.

My philosophy as a coach is to teach, motivate and inspire our players to be the best they can be. This is accomplished through hard work, dedication and commitment. We want to teach each player to reach their fullest potential and completely understand the game – Not just the X’s and O’s but all situations that can occur on the field. I feel it’s important to teach skills and schemes but more importantly the values the game has in life.

The most satisfying thing about coaching are the relationships that I’ve made with players, parents and coaches. Nothing else compares to the friendships I’ve made through football.

The most memorable moments I have in coaching High School Football was our two trips to the Sectional Championships at the Ralph in 2012 and 2015.

My role as an assistant coach is Defensive Coordinator, Special teams, the DB’s and WR’s.

All our former players have helped build the program to be successful and each team is special in their own way. Many have been good but the top six teams in my opinion would be 1999, 2008, 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015.

I have a lot of great memories playing, but the most memorable moment playing was my first college interception at Georgetown my junior year at Canisius College.

I’ve had a lot of mentors and role models in my life and I try to learn from as many from them as possible. But my biggest mentor were my parents. Without them I don’t know where I’d be today. They were always there for me and taught me what it means to be a good teacher, parent and person.

I’ve been coaching football for 19 years. I started coaching High School football in 1996 at Iroquois. I spent 3 years there before getting a position with Pat Braunschiedel at West Seneca East in 2000.
