CHEEKTOWAGA, NY- Cleveland Hill beat Gowanda 26-6 Saturday afternoon to advance to the Section 6 Class C finals at New Era Field next weekend. Its the 11th time in school history that the Eagles have made it to New Era Field.
Cleveland Hill lost its opener to Maryvale but since then has won 8 straight games. They will take on Southwestern at 12 noon next Saturday for the Class C championship and a spot in the Far West Regionals the following weekend also at New Era Field. The Eagles Matt Eldridge rushed for a game high 148 yards on just 12 carries. He also had 10 tackles on defense. Eldridge ran for two touchdowns, one a 74 yard run and the other a 29 yard run.
Tyler Phillips had a 62 yard touchdown run that just about put the game in the Eagle's back pocket. It was a back breaker.
Kameron Alexander scored the only Gowanda touchdown of the game, an 18 yard run in the third quarter. Alexander finished the day with 133 yards rushing on 31 carries.
Cleveland Hill improves to 8-1 on the season. Gowanda finishes with a 6-3 record.
The Eagle's opponent next week is Southwestern, coached by former Clymer standout Jehuu Caulcrick.
