Waco, TX (Sports Network) - Brady Heslip scored 26 points to lead seven
players in double figures as the Baylor Bears routed the Long Beach State
49ers, 112-66, in the first round of the National Invitational Tournament at
the Ferrell Center.
Islip hit 8-of-11 attempts from beyond the arc for Baylor (19-14) which
advances to face either Detroit or Arizona State in the second round. Also in
double figures for the Bears were Cory Jefferson (15), Taurean Prince (14),
Isaiah Austin (13), Gary Franklin (11), Pierre Jackson (11) and Deuce Bello
10).
Kris Gulley scored 13 points off the bench, Keala King and Tony Freeland each
put in 12 and James Ennis chipped in 10 for Long Beach State (19-14).
Baylor was on fire in the first half when it shot 60.6 percent from the floor
while connecting on 10-of-14 tries from 3-point range. The Bears led 59-34 at
the break.
After halftime the Bears kept it up shooting 66.7 percent while nailing 6-of-9
from beyond the arc.
Long Beach State shot at just a 33.3 percent clip for the game. Baylor also
had a 47-24 edge in rebounds
