Murray, KY (Sports Network) - With five players scoring in double-figures, led
by 20 points from A.J. Jones, the Southeast Missouri State Redhawks downed the
Murray State Racers, 84-68, in an Ohio Valley Conference tilt at the CFSB
Center.
Corey Wilford added 16 points for the Redhawks (16-15, 8-8 OVC), while Nick
Niemczyk finished with 14 points, Tyler Stone scored 13 points and Nino
Johnson chipped in with 11 points.
For the Racers (20-9, 10-6), Isaiah Canaan led the way with a game-high 22
points, while Ed Daniel posted a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds
and Jeffery Moss added 10 points.
SE Missouri State led at the break, 47-39, by knocking down 53.3 percent of
its field goal attempts, including a scorching 9-of-12 from beyond the 3-point
arc. Murray State made 44.8 percent of its field goal tries in the half and
was almost as effective on the perimeter as the Redhawks, draining 7-of-12
from 3-point range before halftime.
After intermission, the Racers struggled from the field, shooting just 28.6
percent and 3-of-12 from 3-point distance. The Redhawks shot 45.5 percent form
the field and had a 14-6 scoring advantage from the free-throw line in the
second half, as they escaped with the victory.
The Redhawks had the edge in rebounding, 39-33. They finished the game a
nearly-perfect 20-of-21 from the free-throw line.
