Riverdale, NY (Sports Network) - Juan'ya Green lead all scorers with 18 points
as the Niagara Purple Eagles held off the Manhattan Jaspers, 60-56, in a Metro
Atlantic Athletic Conference showdown at Draddy Gymnasium.
Marvin Green added 16 points on 4-of-8 3-point shooting for Niagara (16-11,
12-4 MAAC), which has won back-to-back games on the heels of three straight
losses.
Donovan Kates netted 14 points for Manhattan (10-16, 8-8), which snapped a
season-long four-game winning streak. Rhamel Brown tallied 12 points, eight
rebounds and four blocks, while Michael Alvarado and Emmy Andujar chipped in
11 and 10 points, respectively.
Manhattan outshot Niagara from the field in the first half, 43.5 percent to
25.8 percent, but the Purple Eagles drained three 3-pointers and went 3-of-3
from the free-throw line as they took a 22-21 lead into intermission. The
Jaspers shot just 1-of-8 from beyond the arc in the opening 20 minutes and 0-
of-2 from the foul line.
After the teams traded a few leads early in the second half, Niagara broke a
43-43 tie with under seven minutes to play with a 6-0 run late in the frame to
grab hold of the advantage for good.
Niagara forced the Jaspers into 22 turnovers, which it converted into 16
points.
