Luis Obispo, CA (Sports Network) - Chris Eversley registered a double-double
of 21 points and 10 boards to lift the Cal Poly Mustangs to a 67-62 decision
over the Pacific Tigers in Big West Conference play at Mott Gym.
Kyle Odister added 14 points in 20 minutes off the bench for Cal Poly (10-11,
6-5 Big West) to help it snap a two-game losing slide. Brian Bennett also had
a productive outing with eight points and 10 boards.
Travis Fulton paced Pacific (13-9, 7-3) with 19 points on 6-of-12 shooting
from the floor, but he was the lone Tiger to reach double-figures.
Both teams had trouble finding their shooting touch in the opening stanza. Cal
Poly went 7-of-27 from the field and 1-of-6 from beyond the arc while the
Tigers hit 29.6 percent of their field goal tries to take a 21-20 lead into
the intermission.
The Mustangs faced a 36-28 deficit with 13:36 left to play, but they continued
to chip away at the visitors' lead until Eversley knocked down a 3-pointer to
put them up, 46-45, with 7:17 showing on the clock. Sama Taku split a pair of
free throws on his trip to the free-throw line on the Tigers' next possession
to tie it back up before Odister put Cal Poly ahead for good with a make from
distance.
The hosts held a 39-35 edge in rebounds and outscored the Tigers, 26-18, in
the paint en route to the win.
