Auburn, AL (Sports Network) - Allen Payne and Josh Wallace scored 11 points
apiece as the Auburn Tigers used a big second half surge to defeat the Alabama
Crimson Tide, 49-37, in a Southeastern Conference bout at Auburn Arena.
Rob Chubb grabbed seven rebounds for Auburn (9-13, 3-6 SEC) as it overcame a
10-point halftime deficit to snap its six-game losing streak. The Tigers
managed to win despite a 1-of-13 showing from the floor by leading scorer
Frankie Sullivan.
Trevor Releford and Rodney Cooper tallied scored 11 points each for Alabama
(14-8, 6-3), which had won its previous two games.
Alabama shot just 33.3 percent from the field in the opening half, but it
still managed to take a 23-13 lead into the intermission after the Tigers went
3-of-23 from the floor in the opening 20 minutes.
The Tigers heated up to sink 57.1 percent of their field goal attempts and
added 11-of-15 at the charity stripe in the second half. Alabama watched its
lead evaporate as it went 6-of-25 from the field including 1-of-12 from beyond
the arc after the break.
Auburn converted Alabama's 16 turnovers in 21 points, while the Crimson Tide
managed to produce just seven points off of the Tigers' 14 miscues.
