Des Moines, IA (Sports Network) - Tyler Brown scored 25 points and dished out
nine assists as the Illinois State Redbirds bested the Drake Bulldogs, 94-86,
in a Missouri Valley Conference conflict at the Knapp Center.
Jackie Carmichael netted 23 points, John Wilkins had 18 before fouling out and
Bryant Allen chipped in 12 for Illinois State (14-10, 5-7 MVC) which has won
five of its last six games.
Richard Carter scored 17 points to go with six assists, Chris Hines added 16
points, Ben Simons dropped in 13 points, Jordan Clarke had a double-double of
12 points and 10 rebounds and Joey King notched 11 points off the bench for
Drake (11-12, 5-7) which had won three of its previous four.
At halftime it was Drake that held a 51-40 lead by shooting 54.5 percent from
the field while knocking in 9-of-20 from beyond the arc. Illinois State shot
at a 46.7 percent clip in the first 20 minutes.
After intermission the Bulldogs cooled to just 38.5 percent from the field.
That opened the door for the Redbirds who shot 50 percent from the field and
knocked down 22-of-24 attempts from the free-throw line to pull out the
victory.
Illinois State had advantages of 38-20 on points in the paint, 20-10 in points
off turnovers and 32-18 on points from the charity stripe.
