Las Cruces, NM (Sports Network) - Bandja Sy scored a game-high 16 points,
leading four starters in double figures, as the New Mexico State Aggies
dominated the Utah State Aggies, 64-51, in Western Athletic Conference action
at the Pan American Center.
Also scoring in double figures for NMSU (11-8, 5-2 WAC) were Tyrone Watson and
Daniel Mullings with 12 points apiece and K.C. Ross-Miller with 10 as the home
team won for the fifth time in as many games.
Utah State (14-2, 5-1) was paced by Preston Medlin with 14 points and Jarred
Shaw 11, but still the team had a 13-game win streak snapped.
The visitors led by a couple of points early in the first half, but they ended
up going cold from the floor and shooting just 25.8 percent, en route to a
23-18 deficit at the break.
In the second half USU picked up the pace with 56.0 percent accuracy from the
field, but at the same time NMSU, which led by as many as 21 points with just
under six minutes remaining, connected on a sizzling 69.6 percent from the
field as the home team cruised to the win.
New Mexico State finished the night shooting 57.8 percent from the field, but
only 2-of-8 on the perimeter.
