Nashville, TN (Sports Network) - Ian Clark scored 22 points on 7-of-10
shooting, including 5-of-6 from 3-point range, to lead the Belmont Bruins to
an 83-76 win over the Eastern Kentucky Colonels in an Ohio Valley Conference
showdown at the Curb Event Center.
Blake Jenkins added 21 points on 8-of-9 shooting from the floor to help
Belmont (14-4, 5-0 OVC) win its fifth straight game. Kerron Johnson scored 15
points.
EKU (14-4, 4-1) got 24 points from Mike DiNunno and 13 from Timmy Knipp as it
dropped to third place in the crowded East Division of the OVC. Orlando
Williams added 10 points and six assists off the bench.
Belmont controlled the first half by shooting 54.2 percent as it jumped out
to a 27-12 lead before heading into the locker room ahead 33-24. Clark and
Jenkins missed just one shot between them in the half as they led the way with
11 and nine points, respectively.
EKU took its first lead of the night on a DiNunno triple at the 7:29 mark but
Belmont responded, outscoring the Colonels the rest of the way, 18-9. Clark,
Jenkins and Johnson all hit 2-of-2 at the foul line in the final minutes.
The Bruins were dominant on the glass, outrebounding EKU 38-19.
