Pennsylvania, PA (Sports Network) - Jerrelle Benimon scored 18 points and
ripped down 16 rebounds as the Towson Tigers outlasted the Drexel Dragons,
68-66, in a Colonial Athletic Association contest at the Daskalakis Center.
Marcus Damas had 13 points and Jerome Hairston and Mike Burwell each
contributed 12 for Towson (7-8, 2-0 CAA) which has won three straight.
Frantz Massenat scored 17 points to pace Drexel (5-9, 1-1) while Derrick
Thomas netted 15 and Damion Lee tacked on 14. Daryl McCoy had 11 rebounds in
the loss for the Dragons who had won two of three entering play.
Towson dominated in the first half and led 32-18 at the break. The Tigers shot
46.2 percent from the floor and limited Drexel to just seven first-half field
goals.
Drexel improved its shooting in the second half, including a 7-of-15 effort
from beyond the arc to get back in the game. After trailing by as many as 19
points in the second frame the Dragons cut the Tiger lead to 67-64 with 22
seconds remaining. Towson drained two free throws on its next possession and
Drexel missed on two 3-point attempts in the final seconds to let the game
slip away.
Towson outscored Drexel 26-10 on points in the paint and had a 39-26 edge on
the boards.
