Detroit, MI (Sports Network) - Ray McCallum had 26 points and Jason Calliste
scored 20, as the Detroit Titans extended their home court winning streak with
an 84-76 triumph over Horizon League foe Green Bay.
Juwan Howard, Jr. added 16 points, Doug Anderson scored 12, and Nick Minnerath
finished with 10 as the Titans (10-5, 2-0 HL) notched their 17th consecutive
victory inside Calihan Hall. The starting-five accounted for all 84 of
Detroit's points.
Keifer Sykes led the way for the Phoenix (6-9, 0-2) with 21 points on 8-of-13
shooting from the floor. Greg Mays chipped in with 18 points and nine
rebounds, while Alec Brown and Sultan Muhammad scored 16 and 11 points,
respectively.
Detroit was leading 23-21 midway through the first half before Howard and
Calliste hit back-to-back 3-pointers to stretch the margin to eight. The
Titans used an 11-2 edge in points off turnovers in the first half to grab a
42-37 halftime advantage, despite allowing Green Bay to shoot 60 percent from
the floor in the opening frame.
Detroit made only 7-of-24 field goals in the second half but was able to seal
the victory by sinking 28-of-29 free throws after halftime.
Detroit made a season-high 38 free throws for the game while missing only four
attempts (.905). The Titans also took care of the basketball, committing only
six turnovers to notch their eighth victory in their last nine outings.
