Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Eric Wise scored 19 points as the USC
Trojans topped the Dayton Flyers in overtime, 63-61, in a non-conference
thriller at the Galen Center.
Aaron Fuller had a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds and Dewayne
Dedmon chipped in 10 points for USC (5-8) which had lost seven of its previous
eight games.
Kevin Dillard scored 13 points to pace Dayton (9-4) which had won five of its
previous six. Devin Oliver posted his fourth double-double of the year by
scoring 11 points while bringing in 12 rebounds and Josh Benson added 11
points.
The Trojans had a 27-20 lead at halftime after shooting 40.0 percent from the
field while holding Dayton to 30.8 percent shooting in the first half.
With the game knotted at 51-51 Jio Fontan sank a driving shot with 5.5 seconds
remaining in regulation to give USC a 53-51 lead. On the ensuing possession
Oliver put in a layup at the buzzer off an assist from Dillard to send the
game to overtime.
In the overtime the Trojans led by three points with less than 5.8 seconds
left when the Flyers took possession. Dillard was fouled and nailed both free
throws to bring the Flyers to within a point. The Flyers had a chance to win
or force another overtime after USC went 1-of-2 from the free throw line
on the next possession but Dillard's last second shot was off the mark.
Dayton lost despite recording a season-high 13 steals.
