Riverdale, NY (Sports Network) - George Beamon recorded a double-double of 28
points and 10 rebounds to lead to a 90-77 victory over the Canisius Golden
Griffins in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action at Draddy Gymnasium.
Donovan Kates added 18 points as Manhattan (20-10, 12-5 MAAC) won for the
second straight time. Rhamel Brown got into the mix as well with 13 points.
Alshwan Hymes paced the Golden Griffins (5-23, 1-16) with 23 points. Gaby
Belardo chipped in 19 points and Harold Washington contributed 12 points.
Belardo and Chris Manhertz grabbed six rebounds each.
The Jaspers took a 42-36 advantage into halftime after they shot 48.6 percent
from the field and connected on 6-of-13 from three-point range in the opening
period. Canisius kept it close by hitting 48.3 percent of its field goals in
the first frame.
Manhattan extended its lead after the break as it poured in 58.1 percent of
its shots from the floor and scored 28 points in the paint in the final 20
minutes. The Jaspers led by 24 points with 7:42 left to play.
Canisius finished the game with 10 assists and 11 turnovers. The Jaspers moved
the ball on offense much more effectively, as they had 23 assists to their 12
turnovers. The Golden Griffins have now lost 11 straight conference games.
