Lawrenceville, NJ (Sports Network) - Novar Gadson scored 23 points to push the
Rider Broncs as they downed the Loyola-Maryland Greyhounds, 83-79, in a Metro
Atlantic Athletic Conference bout at Alumni Gymnasium.
Jeff Jones chipped in 16 points for Rider (12-18, 9-8 MAAC), Jonathon Thompson
added 15 points, and Daniel Stewart scored 11. Brandon Penn recorded a double-
double of 12 points and 10 rebounds to help the Broncs snap their three-game
losing slide.
Shane Walker and Erik Etherly scored 14 points each as the Greyhounds (20-8,
12-5) lost for the third time in four games. Justin Drummond netted 13 points
off the bench, Dylon Cormier had 12 points, and R.J. Williams contributed 11
points.
Rider took a 46-42 advantage into the intermission after it shot 53.3 percent
from the floor and converted 10-of-12 at the charity stripe in the opening
period. The Greyhounds hung around by connecting on 52 percent of their field
goal attempts in the first half.
Loyola took control after the break and led 79-78 with 52 seconds remaining
after a Cormier made a go-ahead layup. Gadson put the Broncs back up as he
completed a traditional three-point play. Walker missed a three-point attempt
for Loyola and Penn sealed the game with a pair of clutch free throws. Loyola
was able to battle back in the second half by outscoring Rider, 20-8, in the
paint in the final 20 minutes. The Broncs converted 15-of-18 at the foul line
in the closing half.
Rider held a 35-26 advantage in the rebounding battle.
