Hanover, N. H. (Sports Network) - Zack Rosen was sensational as he scored 27
points to lead the Penn Quakers as they outlasted the Dartmouth Big Green to
pick up a 57-54 victory in an Ivy League battle at Leede Arena.
Rob Belcore contributed a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds as Penn
(16-11, 8-2 Ivy) won for the fourth time in a row.
John Golden paced the Big Green (5-22, 1-10) with 13 points as he went 3-of-3
from beyond the arc. Jvonte Brooks contributed 12 points, Tyler Melville added
11 points, and Gabas Maldunas pulled down 10 boards.
Penn took a 27-20 lead into halftime after it shot 40.7 percent from the floor
in the opening period. The Big Green fell behind after they made just six of
their 19 field goal attempts in the first half.
Dartmouth rallied back after the break by shooting 47.8 percent from the field
in the second half. The Big Green led 39-38 with 7:45 left to play before
Belcore made a layup to put Penn backup on the ensuing possession. The game
remained close down the stretch. Brooks was fouled as he layed it in, and he
approached the foul line with the Big Green trailing 55-54 with 12 seconds
left to play. Brooks missed the potential game-tying free throw, and Rosen
added two from the charity stripe to make Penn's lead 57-54. R.J. Griffin
attempted a game-tying three-pointer with seconds left the play, but it was
unsuccessful and the Quakers kept their Ivy League Title hopes alive.
Despite the loss, Dartmouth held a 38-26 advantage in the rebounding battle.
The game was decided at the foul line, as Penn shot 70.6 percent from the
charity stripe while the Big Green converted just 53.6 percent of their foul
shots.
