New Haven, CT (Sports Network) - Reggie Willhite finished with 20 points,
eight rebounds, and six assists to push the Yale Bulldogs to a 75-67 victory
over the Columbia Lions in an Ivy League bout at the John J. Lee Amphitheater.
Greg Mangano scored a team-high 22 points for Yale (18-7, 8-3 Ivy). Austin
Morgan added 14 points while Brandon Sherrod chipped in 10 points off the
bench.
Brian Barbour paced Columbia (14-13, 3-8) with 21 points and eight assists.
Alex Rosenberg contributed 13 points and eight rebounds, Chris Crockett netted
11 points, and Meiko Lyles and Cory Osetkowski scored 10 points each. Mark
Cisco grabbed a game-high nine rebounds as the Lions lost for the fourth time
in a row.
Yale took a 30-22 lead into the intermission after it hit 37.5 percent of its
field goals in the opening period. The Lions fell behind after they managed to
make only 28.6 percent of their field goals attempts in the first half.
Both sides heated up halftime. Columbia knocked down 53.3 percent of its shots
in the second frame, but the Bulldogs kept their advantage by converting 20-
of-27 at the charity stripe in the final 20 minutes. The Lions' hot shooting
allowed them to tie it up, 58-58, with five minutes left to play. However,
Yale closed out the game on a 17-9 run by knocking down 11 free throws in the
final five minutes.
The Bulldogs dished out 15 assists and only committed seven turnovers in the
contest. Columbia lost despite holding a 38-35 edge in the rebounding battle.
