Portland, OR (Sports Network) - Clint Steindl paced five teammates in double
figures with 15 points as the Saint Mary's-CA Gaels made easy work of the
Portland Pilots 70-43 in West Coast Conference action at Chiles Center.
Rob Jones tallied 12 points and 13 rebounds while Matthew Dellavedova added 12
points and nine assists for Saint Mary's (24-5, 13-2 WCC), which had lost
three of its previous four games. Mitchell Young and Beau Levesque scored 10
points apiece for the Gaels.
For Portland (6-22, 3-12), Nemanja Mitrovic scored 14 points. The Pilots have
now lost five in a row and 11 of their last 12 games.
Saint Mary's shot an impressive 57.7 percent from the field in the first half
and allowed Portland to make just 7-of-28 of its field goals to take a
comfortable 35-18 lead into halftime.
The Gaels made only eight field goals in the second stanza but continued to
stretch their lead by going 18-of-21 from the foul line after the break.
Portland committed 17 turnovers and lost the battle on the boards, 34-24.
