Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Christopher Allen and Darian Norris each
scored 12 points to help lead the San Diego Toreros past the Loyola Marymount
Lions 60-57 in West Coast Conference action at Gersten Pavilion.
Anderson also dished out five assists and grabbed seven rebounds for San Diego
(12-16, 7-8 WCC), which has won two of three. Dennis Kramer added 11 points
for the Toreros.
Loyola Marymount (18-11, 10-5) had won six of its previous seven before
tonight's loss. Ashley Hamilton led all scorers with 15 points and Anthony
Ireland chipped in 14 points for the Lions.
San Diego shot 44 percent from the field in the first half and it held Loyola
to 10-of-28 shooting overall and just 1-of-7 from three-point range to take a
28-22 lead into the break.
The teams spent much of the second half exchanging leads and ties. After an
Ireland three-pointer for the Lions tied the game at 55-55 with 2:39
remaining, the Toreros answered with a three-pointer from Norris to retake the
lead 58-55 with 1:17 left. Another Ireland bucket brought Loyola back within
one, 58-57. Simi Fajemisin hit two free-throws for San Diego with 15 seconds
left, giving Loyola one last possession down three, but an Ireland shot from
beyond the arc was off the mark.
San Diego was able to overcome 19 turnovers by winning the rebounding battle,
35-29.
