Baton Rouge, LA (Sports Network) - Adrienne Webb scored 19 points to lead
LSU as it upset No. 6 Kentucky 61-51 at Pete Maravich Assembly Center on
Sunday.
LaSondra Barrett added 12 points for the Lady Tigers (15-9, 5-5 SEC), who
snapped a five-game SEC losing streak in the upset victory over Kentucky.
A'dia Mathies had 12 points and Keyla Snowden chipped in 11 points for
Kentucky (21-3, 10-1), which lost for the first time in 10 games.
The LSU defense stifled Kentucky, holding it to just 8-of-29 shooting from the
field in the first half as LSU took a 20-18 halftime lead over a heavily
favored Kentucky squad.
In a back-and-forth second half, Kentucky was able to convert a big LSU
turnover as Snowden knocked down a three-pointer to cut the deficit to
48-45 with just under four minutes remaining in the contest.
However, LSU would score the next eight points, including 6-of-6 from the
line, as the Lady Tigers held on for the upset victory.
The victory over a top-5 team was LSU's first since the 2008 NCAA Elite 8
victory over North Carolina.
