Bridgeport, CT (Sports Network) - Rakim Sanders finished with 23 points and
nine rebounds to lead the Fairfield Stags in their 64-56 victory over the
Siena Saints in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference bout at Webster Bank
Arena.
Derek Needham added 19 points for Fairfield (13-10, 8-4 MAAC), as it extended
its winning streak to three.
Kyle Downey paced Siena (10-13, 5-8) with 17 points. Evan Hymes chipped in 14
points while OD Anosike recorded a double-double with 12 points and 22
rebounds.
The Stags led 37-24 at halftime after they shot 46.4 percent from the field
and knocked down 6-of-11 from three-point range in the opening period. Siena
fell behind as it struggled from the field, shooting only 24.2 percent.
The Saints attempted to rally after the break and cut the deficit to six
points as they trailed 44-38 with 14:26 left to play. Fairfield answered and
pushed its lead back up to double-digits where it would remain until Hymes
made a three-pointer at the buzzer to make the final margin eight points.
Siena's ball movement was not too impressive as it had just six assists to 16
turnovers. The Stags dished out 14 assists to their 16 turnovers.
