LANCASTER, N.Y.-In the MMAA ECIC Challenge at St. Mary's of Lancaster Monday night Iroquois beat Walsh 62-56.
The game was tied at 50 with four minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. In the final four minutes Iroquois outscored Walsh 12-to-6. Walsh head coach Andy Moore was hit with a technical foul during that stretch.
For Iroquois senior # 10 Nathan Wilkinson led the way with 27 points. Junior # 1 Phillip Bowen had 14 points.
For Walsh the top scorer was junior # 3 Gregor Greer with 21. Two others, # 0 freshman Adam Moore and # 5 senior Jake Champman also scored in double figures. Moore had 17 and Champman 13.
Walsh drops to 1-3 on the season. Iroquois opens league play at home Friday night against Sweet Home.
In the first game of the challenge it was Cheektowaga beating Niagara Catholic 60-57.Zak Ciezki led the way with 21 points for the Warriors. For the Big Red Jonathan Jackson was the top scorer with 20 points.
