NIAGARA FALL, N.Y.-In the opening night of the Cataract Classic, Williamsville North got off to a roaring start and coasted to a 51-32 win over Batavia. The Spartans led by 16 after the first quarter.
The Spartans had the ball the majority of the time in the first half and went into halftime leading 28-11. "I am really proud of my team. The key to our win was our scoring in the first quarter. We came out strong and made our shots, and our defense played great tonight" said Coach Chuck Swierski.
Williamsville North junior Sterling Taplin led all scorers with 23 points. Spartans Senior David Berkun had back to back three pointers in the first quarter which gave them a 22-6 lead. Berkun finished the game with 13 points.
Williamsville North's defense held down Batavia throughout the game leaving only four of their players to score. Blue Devil's Senior Tajzay Powell had 12 points along with Senior Justin Washington who had 11 points.
