Crystle Marion sets WNY Girls Basketball scoring record for St. Mary's School for the Deaf.
SNYDER, N.Y. - Crystle Marion scored 26 points for St. Mary's School for the Deaf to become Western New York's all-time leading girls basketball scorer.
Marion has scored 2,432 points in her career, breaking the mark held by Samantha Kopp of Franklinville who had 2,420 career points.
St. Mary's School for the Deaf played on the road at the Park School Thursday afternoon. Marion needed 15 points to break the record. She would hit the mark in the 4th quarter scoring a layup on a drive to the basket, while getting fouled.
The game was briefly stopped to honor her record, and Marion was congratulated on the court by her teammates and family.
"She wanted to be number one for one day in her life," said SMSD head coach Bryan Booke. "This is the number one accomplishment in Western New York basketball."
Marion is currently a senior for SMSD, she started playing on the varsity team in 7th grade.
The Park School would win the game 54-37. #24 Jessica Myszka finished with 20 points, #32 Taylor Gillespie added 13 points.
