BUFFALO, N.Y. - Buffalo Navy Week officially wrapped up early Monday morning along the Erie Basin Marina with the departure of the frigate USS Hurricane.

It was the last of the four ships to depart the area as the U.S. Navy continues its tour of the Great Lakes.

U.S. Navy Commander Joshua Himes says that around 25,000 people toured the four ships, helicopter and other displays set up last week as part of the US Navy's celebration of the Bicentennial of the War of 1812.

"Every city is different, but certainly the numbers here in Buffalo were on the high side," said Commander Himes.  "I think that it's because Buffalo has a great military heritage and a great connection."

The next stop for the servicemen will be Hamilton, Ontario.  We're told the HMCS Ville de Quebec and USS Hurricane will make that trip.  The USS Dewert will return to its home port of Naval Station Mayport in Jacksonville, Florida.

Navy Week 2012 will officially wrap up in Houston, Texas during the week of October 22-28.
