EDEN, NY - An Eden man is in critical condition following a one car crash early Saturday morning.

Michael Zittel, 22 years old, crashed his 2010 Toyota around 3 a.m. at the intersection of Route 62 and Route 75.

According to police, Zittel drove off the road at a high rate of speed. His vehicle struck a utility pole causing it to break in half and came to rest against a large tree.

Zittel was the only passenger in his car. He was taken to ECMC by Mercy Flight where he is listed in critical condition.

Fire departments from the area had to divert traffic for several hours while crews worked to restore power due to the broken utility pole.

Zittel was issued summonses for speed not prudent, failure to keep right and no safety belt.

The accident is still under investigation.
