ERIE COUNTY, N.Y. -- The Erie County Sheriff's Department is investigating an accident that has left one teenager dead and another in critical condition.
The Erie County Sheriff's Office says a 2001 Ford Mustang convertible driven by a 19-year-old male drove off Versailles-Plank Road on the Cattaraugus Indian Reservation and down a 50 foot embankment around 4:20 Saturday morning.
Two teenager girls, both 14-years-old from Hamburg, were ejected from the vehicle. One girl was pronounced dead at the scene and the other is listed in critical condition at Children's Hospital.
A 16-year-old female was riding in the back seat with the girls. She has been treated and released from Lakeshore Hospital.
The driver and a 16-year-old male from West Seneca who was riding in the front passenger seat are both uninjured.
The driver has voluntarily submitted to a blood alcohol test but the cause remains under investigation. No charges have been filed at this point.
Police say the group was headed to Sunset Bay with two other cars down Versailles-Plank Road. The two cars were driving ahead of the Mustang and were not involved in the accident.
