What's behind the 8.6% tax hike in West Seneca?

Answers Wanted For West Seneca Tax Hike

WEST SENECA, NY- If you live in West Seneca and your house is worth about $150,000, prepare to pay a little over $97 more when the tax bill arrives.

West Seneca Town Supervisor Sheila Meegan said “over six hours of public hearings over two nights with a total of 65 speakers" took place before lawmakers decided on an 8.6 percent tax hike.

When reporters tried to interview Meegan after the vote, she did not make herself available.

One day later Supervisor Meegan told 2 On Your Side she “did not see the need to go on camera.”

While at Town Hall, efforts to speak with her on camera were unsuccessful, but she did respond via text to our question for the real reason for a nearly 9 percent tax increase for the town.  She said in a text message that the drivers for the 8.6 percent tax increase has to do with $20 million in spending on a mandatory sewer project, infrastructure and road reconstruction, increase in worker's comp and health care, increase in refuse and recycling fees, upgrades in technology, accounting and payroll software.
