UNIONDALE, N.Y. (AP) -- A woman visiting her son's tomb at a Long Island cemetery was dismayed to discover that the grave contained a new body.
Officials at Greenfield Cemetery in Uniondale quickly realized
that they had mistakenly buried a man in the wrong spot.
The new coffin was apparently laid to rest on top of the old one
on Nov. 8.
The distraught mother, Nicole Pailliere, says she is furious
about the mistake.
The Town of Hempstead operates the cemetery. A spokesman for the town said a clerical mistake was to blame.
Authorities say the cemetery compounded its error by exhuming
the newly deposited body without getting his family's permission first.
