BUFFALO, N.Y. -- A viewer recently sent an email to our Tipline, asking 2 On Your Side to find out why he is being charged a convenience fee every time he pays his Erie County Water Authority bill.

We took that very question to the Water Authority's office on Main Street.  Deputy Director Bob Lichtenthal tells us the one dollar service fee is actually charged by J.P. Morgan Chase and all the money collected goes directly to them.

Lichtenthal also said there is a way to still pay your Erie County water bill without paying the convenience fee.

"Customers have this alternative whether to use e-check, or whether to use a credit card.  You have other customers which have been using their bank's bill pay for may years and they deal with their bank directly in a secure manner, and most of these are usually no charge to the customers."
