Texas A&M President Michael K. Young delivers 'state of the university' address

A&M President delivered his State of the University Address.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - As Texas A&M celebrates 140 years, the university's president, Michael K. Young, delivered his "state of the university" address Tuesday to a large crowd on campus.

Hundreds gathered in the Arthur Martell Lecture Hall as Young talked about his vision for the university.

Looking forward, Young discussed his strategies to keep A&M's standard of excellence but also said there are areas for growth.

A big highlight was his praise of the Aggie family when it comes to service.

"No university that I have ever been associated with, had the opportunity to affiliate with in any way, does what this university does in terms of its commitment and its compassion for service," said Young.

To help foster even more growth, Young announced that $2 million will go toward programs that will help students in what he calls a "transformative" way.

The programs will be unveiled at a later time.
