BUFFALO, N.Y. - In the past few years, eight Western New Yorkers lost their lives in distracted driving crashes.
Christina Curtis was not one of those people, but she was involved in a car accident on Route 5 in the Town of Pembroke in 2008 while she was texting.
She was driving back to school at SUNY Geneseo, when she hit a tree after looking at a text.
Today, she doesn't text while she drives and wants to make sure she passes the message onto others.
"It's not even texting, it's using your iPod, GPS, all different kinds of technology. I think people need to be really careful," Curtis said. "Just take the time if they need to, pull over on the side of the road for a minute or two, just a really small effort could make a big difference."
