BUFFALO, NY -- Erie County Clerk Kathy Hochul and the New York State Police are teaming up to stop tragedy on the roads due to distracted driving.

Anti-texting pledge forms will be distributed to all young drivers applying for permits at auto bureaus across Erie County.  When signing, applicants will pledge to wear seat belts at all times, and that they will not use iPods, phones, or send or receive text messages while driving.

Drivers can also print and sign the pledge online.

Last week, a young woman from Niagara County, Mary Kavanaugh, died in an accident near Rochester. Police say she may have been texting at the time of the crash.
