BUFFALO, N.Y. -- "Fashion-forward" is not the term you’d normally expect to hear from someone describing Buffalo, but a group of people are attempting to help change that.
It began nine months ago as an idea to replace the defunct Buffalo Fashion Week.
Rick is the Director of Queen City Fashion Week, which was organized as a way to give area designers a platform to showcase their work.
“Buffalo is a hub of some very creative people, fantastic designers, amazing boutiques, great photographers, but we’re lacking something that gels them together," Rick Warne explains. "So I thought by having a major fashion show we’d pretty much cover that.”
Tuesday night's affair was just a mixer, but the main event is two shows on Thursday evening; one for boutiques and one featuring the work of nine local designers.
According to the Fashion Week's Creative Director Rachel Good, Buffalo’s fashion community is growing along with the city.
“More businesses, more money, which means more people want to go shopping, so it’s kind of a trickle-down effect," she says. "There are more local boutiques opening up and then from there people have more options and resources to open their own shops, (and) create their own lines.”
Nicole Davis is the CEO and Designer of Franci Jewlery. She’ll have pieces in Thursday’s show.
“A lot of traditional, classic elements, but we turn it into untraditional design, so it’s more than just jewelry," she explained, describing her work.
Rick says it's designers like Nicole for whom the event was created.
“We’ve seen designers and their work is outstanding, and if you don’t have a great fashion show, it’s not going to be seen,” she said.
You can see the work of Nicole and other local designers at "The Crown Runway Show" at the Foundry Suites on Elmwood Avenue in Buffalo on Thursday, October 13th. The boutique show get under way at 6 P.M. while the Designers show begins at 8 P.M. Tickets for the event are $40 and are available at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/queen-city-fashion-week-crown-runway-fashion-show-tickets-26936854858?aff=efbeventtix.
