Seiche Lowers Lake Erie Levels

The water in Lake Erie is shifting over to its western basin, causing water levels to drop along the eastern shore. The phenomenon is called a seiche, and it's happening because the normal wind direction has reversed. Usually windflow over the lake comes out of the southwest but today it's coming from the northeast. The water level off of Buffalo has dropped two feet in the last hour.
