Hamburg Police arrested a man who they say led them on a wild car chase throughout town late Friday afternoon.

Detectives say it started when Ryan Kirbis, 29, of Buffalo, allegedly assaulted his girlfriend as they sat in her vehicle on Rt. 179.

They say Kirbis then leapt from the vehicle and stole four cars while trying to make his escape.

Police say he threatened to kill the cars' owners. Kirbis led police down Rt. 179, past Hilbert College, through Hillcrest Cemetery and into a residential neighborhood.

Kirbis was apprehended on Marie Drive.

Village of Hamburg and Town of Orchard Park Police units also assisted in the arrest.

No one was seriously hurt as a result of the chase, but several vehicles and structures inside the cemetary were damaged.

Kirbis faces a number of charges, including several counts of robbery.
