The Erie Canal Harbor is now open to the public. Jordan Levy, chairman of the Canal Development Corporation says they were urged by the Mayor of Buffalo to get it open for the public to enjoy for the Memorial Day Holiday weekend.
Levy says "it's almost like a park." There's a waterfall and old hotel ruins. "This is at least showing people there is some reality to the rhetoric," said Levy.
The Erie Canal was constructed during the 1800's. It turned Buffalo from a small lakefront into a metropolis.
Over the next few years, $400 million dollars will be spent to further develop the area.
