A Tonawanda couple found out that making a change in satellite equipment also made a change in their satellite agreement.

Kim Schwartzkopf and her husband Bill switched from DirecTV to cable because they thought their agreement was up.

But, when the swicth was made they were hit with a hefty cancellation fee of $400 by the satellite company. The Schwartzkopfs say they were told by direct TV their agreement was extended after they got a new receiver. But the reason they got a new receiver was because the old one wasn't working properly.

Kim Schwartzkopf, Tonawanda Resident: "They never said by receiving a new receiver you will be renewing your contract. They said they sent a confirmation in the mail but I never received anything."

Robert Mercer, a spokesman for DirecTV tells 2 On Your Side: "This complaint has been resolved. The fee is a valid charge. But in order to resolve this issue we have issued a credit for the early cancellation fee."

Kim and Bill tells us they're happy to lose the anxiety over this fee.
