BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) -- Daniel Alfredsson had two of Ottawa's five third-period goals, and Anton Volchenkov snapped a third-period tie with less than 2 minutes left in regulation to rally the Ottawa Senators to a 6-3 win over the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday night.

Volchenkov, who also had a pair of assists, scored his first of the season with a slap shot from right point that ricocheted twice before going past Buffalo goalie Ryan Miller for the winner.

Christoph Schubert, Dean McAmmond and Antoine Vermette also scored for Ottawa, which rebounded from a 7-5 loss to Montreal on Monday to win for only the sixth time in the past 15 games.

The Senators moved to within five points of the Northeast Division-leading Canadiens.

Derek Roy scored twice before leaving the game with 5 minutes left in regulation with an apparent leg injury, and Jason Pominville also scored for the Sabres, who were unable to gain any ground for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference while losing their second straight.

Miller, playing in his 28th straight game, finished with 25 saves.
