A man hunting in a western New York vineyard was killed when his pickup truck was struck by a freight train. The Chautauqua County Sheriff's Department says 37-year-old John Tampio of Silver Creek was killed yesterday when his truck was hit by a CSX train at a private crossing in Sheridan, 30 miles south of Buffalo. The collision occurred late in the afternoon in a vineyard where he had permission from the owners to bow hunt. Investigators say the westbound train was traveling at 60 miles an hour when it hit the truck, which exploded and flew about 75 feet. Police aren't sure why Tampio didn't see the train approaching the dirt-road crossing.
