
The Diocese of Buffalo's "Journey of Faith and Grace" has led to the closings of more parishes across Western New York.
Niagara County, including Niagara Falls, Lockport, and Gasport, will see closings and mergers. North Tonawanda, Batavia, and Lackawanna will also lose parishes.
The closings are part of the Diocese plans to reconfigure its structure to the needs of the community, along with a dwindling population.
Members of the parishes were told during Saturday mass.
The list is as follows:
St. Mary Parish in Gasport will close, merging into St. John's Parishin Lockport.
St. Patrick Parish in Barker and St. Joseph in Lyndonville will link for one year, then merge into one parish, using both sites.
St. Stephen Parish in Middleport will merge with St. Mary Parish in Medina to form one parish, using both sites.
St. Bridget in Newfane, St. Charles Borromeo in Olcott and Our Lady of the Rosary in Wilson will merge to form one parish, uising the St. Bridge and Our Lady of the Rosary sites.
St. Anthony, St. Joseph, St. Mary and St. Patrick parishes in Lockport will merge to form one parish primarily using the St. Patrick site.
In that region, 21 parishes will merge, forming 11 parishes.
In the city of Niagara Falls, St. Charles Borromeo and St. John deLaSalle will merge to form one parish at the St. John site.
Prince of Peace Parish and St. Leo Parish, both in Niagara Falls, will merge to form one parish, using both sites.
Sacred Heart Parish will close, merging into St. Teresa Parish.
St. Joseph and Our lady of Mt. Carmel Parish will merge into one parish, using both sites.
St. Stanislaus, Holy Trinity, St. George, Our Lady of the Rosary and Our Lady of Lebanon will merge into the St. Stanislaus site. The other sites will close.
In North Tonawanda, St. Albert the Great, Ascension Parish, St. Joseph and Our Lady of Czestochowa will all merge to form two parishes at the St. Albert and Our Lady of Czestochowa sites. The other two locations will close.
In Lackawanna, the parishes of St. Barbara, St. Hyacinth, St. Michael the Archangel and Our Ladyd of Grace in Woodlawn will merge into the St. Michael site. The other parish locations will close.
In Batavia Sacred Heart and St. Anthony parishes will merge to form one parish, using both sites. Also, St. Joseph and St. Mary will merge to form one parish using both sites.
St. Patrick Mission in Wheatville will merge into St. Cecilia Parish in Oakfield. St. Patrick's will no longer have Sunday Mass. Then St. Cecilia and Our Lady of Fatima in Elba will link for now, ultimately merging into one parish, using both sites.
St. Mary Parish in Pavilion and Immaculate Conception in East Bethany will share one pastor.
St. Michael Mission in South Byron will close, merging into St. Brigid Parish in Bergen. Then, St. Brigid will link with St. Peter in LeRoy, using one pastor.
St. Anthony Parish in Lime Rock will close and merge into St. Peter Parish in LeRoy.
St. Joseph Parih in LeRoy will close when it's pastor retires, merging into St. Peter Parish.
St. Francis of Assisi in Corfu will link, and eventually merge with Holy Name of Mary in East Pembroke, using both sites.
Our Lady of Good Counsel in Darien Center will merge with Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish in Bennington Center, using both sites.
Also, St. Mary in Holley and St. Mark Parish in Kendall will share one pastor, while the oratory of St. Rocco in Hulberton will close.
St. Mary Assumption Parish in Albion will close, becoming an oratory, merging into St. Joseph Parish in Albion.
St. Mary, and Sacred Heart parishes in Medina, and ST. Stephen Parish in Middleport will merge into one parish, using the St. Stephen and St. Mary sites.
St. Joseph in Lyndonville and St. Patrick Parish in Barker will link for one year, then form into one parish, using both sites.
