A True American Hero: Jason Dunham

In the Town of Scio, in Allegany County, the name Jason Dunham brings the same response; A true American Hero.

In 2004, Marine Corporal Jason Dunham, while serving in Iraq ... jumped on a grenade to shield his fellow Marines. The selfless act of courage, saved the lives of two comrades. Jason, died of his wounds.

Back in Scio, for his funeral, it seemed the entire town was there to say goodbye. And thank you. Corporal Dunham's bravery become known nation-wide, when President Bush honored him posthumously with the Metal of Honor. Now, another honor in a long list. On Saturday, the United States Navy will officially dedicate the U.S.S. Jason Dunham. A guided missile ship that will serve our County and keep it safe, named after a 22-year old hero from Western New York.

The dedication will take place on Saturday morning at The Bath Iron Works in Bath Maine. Corporal Dunham's mother, Deb has called the honor; overwhelming and heartwarming and says it brings her an incredible sense of pride.
