BUFFALO, N.Y. - When Brett Carlsen took on the task of planning Labatt's annual pond hockey tournament this year, the thought of having no ice for the popular event never crossed his mind.
"It's been quite a winter, hasn't it this year," Carlsen said. "We know that every year the weather will play into this...we need ice."
And that's the problem: Erie Basin Marina, the site of the two previous tournaments, is as ice-free as it can get.
"We usually don't plan on this, that's for sure."
This year, organizers hope for nice weather as they play street hockey for the first time. Watch the video by photojournalist Dooley O'Rourke to hear more about this years revised event.
