BUFFALO, N.Y. - The Kotowski family knows Women and Children's Hospital of Buffalo well. Their daughter, Francesca, has spent much of her young life there as a patient.
Francesca suffered a brain bleed due to a double wrapped umbilical cord and suffered complications after birth. 25 surgeries later, and almost two decades later, Francesca has beaten the odds.
She now serves as an ambassador for the new John R. Oishei Children's Hospital and living a life doctors didn't think was possible, including playing sports and starring in the Special Olympics.
Francesca will continue to volunteer and be a part of a child patient group, Stone's Buddies, as the program moves to the new John R. Oishei Children's Hospital.
