BRAZOS COUNTY, Texas - On Labor Day we honor those whose work and sacrifice shaped our nation. While most enjoy the day off, there are some whose jobs are vital in maintaining our safety.
"There has to be a fire department on duty. When they call, we need to be there to answer," said Edward Bass, a College Station firefighter.
Firefighters, sheriff's deputies, and doctors are among the many professions that are not able to get the holiday off. Local employees KAGS spoke to today say that it's a sacrifice they are willing to make to do what they love.
"I love taking car of people," said Dr. Mark Boyle at CapRock ER. "I love being here when they need somebody to take care of them so my job is never a hassle."
"I like serving the community and I love this profession," said Deputy Stephen Garon from the Brazos County Sheriff's Office.
