WNY man sentenced for killing his girlfriend

TOWN OF TONAWANDA, N.Y. -- A Town of Tonawanda man has been sentenced to 25 years to life behind bars for killing his girlfriend, according to the Erie County District Attorney's Office.

In March, a jury found John M. Avent guilty of second-degree murder for fatally stabbing his girlfriend, 51-year-old Roberta Rybinski. The crime took place in their Newell Ave apartment in March of 2016.

Police had arrested Avent when he was caught on video selling the victim's TV at a pawn shop, which he drove to in her car.
