Walk highlights Pregnancy Loss & Awareness

Annual "Walk to Remember" in Cheektowaga

CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. -- Community members gathered Sunday for a walk to memorialize the youngest lives lost while also celebrating life and family.

The 2016 Annual Walk to Remember was held Sunday afternoon at Cheektowaga Town Park.

The annual walk raises awareness of National Pregnancy Loss and Awareness Month.

The Western New York Perinatal Bereavement Network, Inc. (WNYPBN) hosted the walk. Each year it is held to spread community awareness of supporting bereaved families, according to the organization.

"The Annual Memorial Walk provides a supportive environment for all who have been touched by the death of a baby and gives participants an opportunity to remember and celebrate their loved ones with understanding without judgment," said Christine Scott, Executive Director of WNYPBN.

The event includes poetry, readings, healing music, a tree planing and a balloon release. The main event was a symbolic memory mile walk that ended with a family picnic.
