BUFFALO, NY - William Fargo, along with his business partner, Henry Wells, had a tremendous impact on westward expansion. From Wells Fargo stage coaches transporting people and resources, to the Pony Express becoming an iconic image of the old west, the dynamic duel helped people move, communicate and get rich in the new frontier.
What a lot of Western New Yorkers might not realize is that great American success story began right here in Buffalo. Fargo moved here to work for the Auburn-Syracuse Rail Company, he struck up a partnership with Wells and the rest is history.
Today a historical sign marks the spot where Fargo's massive 22,170 square foot, 5.5 acre estate once stood on what is now part of Buffalo's west side.
